James Lee Hagedorn was born on August 4, 1962, in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, the United States to parents, Tom Hagedorn and Kathleen Middlestadt. His father is a former U.S. Representative who served in Congress from 1975 to 1983.

Jim Hagedorn was raised on his family’s farm near Truman, Minnesota, as well as in McLean, Virginia, near Washington, D.C. Regarding his education, he attended Langley High School and graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in government and political science in 1993.

Jim Hagedorn also served in the United States Department of the Treasury as director for legislative and public affairs for the Financial Management Service from 1991 to 1998. He was a congressional affairs officer for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing until 2009.

Jim Hagedorn had lived in Blue Earth, Minnesota, alongside his wife Jennifer Carnahan (the former chair of the Republican Party of Minnesota) until his death.

Jim Hagedorn passed away on February 17, 2022, at the age of 59. However, the cause of death has not been revealed yet.
