Jim Boeheim is an American former college basketball coach. Jim Boeheim was born in Lyons, New York, a small town about 57 miles west of Syracuse to Jim Boeheim Sr. and Janet Boeheim.

His father, Jim, was a lineman for the New York State Electric and Gas Corporation and a native of Syracuse, New York. Janet, his mother, was a homemaker from Lyons, New York.
Jim Boeheim attended Lyons Central High School. In 1962, Boeheim enrolled at Syracuse University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social science.

Following his graduation from Syracuse, Boeheim went on to play professionally for the Scranton Miners of the Eastern Professional Basketball League, where he won two championships and was a second-team all-star (SU Athletics).
Jim Boeheim was the head coach of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Syracuse Orange men’s team from 1976 to 2023.
Jim Boeheim has led the Orange to ten Big East regular season championships, five Big East tournament titles, and 34 NCAA tournament appearances, including five Final Four appearances and three national title game appearances.
