Jill Wendy Dando was an English journalist, newsreader, and television presenter. She spent the majority of her career with the BBC, where she was named Personality of the Year in 1997. Her television work included co-hosting the BBC One shows Crimewatch with Nick Ross at the time of her death.

Dando was shot dead outside her home in Fulham, southwest London, on April 26, 1999, sparking the Metropolitan Police’s largest murder investigation and the country’s largest criminal investigation since the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper. Barry George, a local man, was convicted and imprisoned for the murder, but he was acquitted after an appeal and retrial after serving eight years in prison.
The Serbian ‘warlord’ Arkan was named as a suspect in the case in 2012, even though he had died in 2000. Even though police identified over 2,000 potential suspects, no other suspects have been charged in Dando’s murder.
