Jéssica Andrade was born to farmer parents Julio and Neusa Andrade. Andrade is of Native Brazilian descent through her great-grandmother.

Jéssica Andrade grew up playing soccer and futsal, aspiring to become a professional soccer player. During school, Andrade started training judo and shortly afterward, in 2011, jiu-jitsu.
Jéssica Andrade made her professional mixed martial arts debut on September 6, 2011. She won eight of her first ten fights in her native Brazil. Andrade made her UFC debut against Liz Carmouche at UFC on Fox: Johnson vs. Moraga on July 23, 2013, as a replacement for Miesha Tate.
