Jens Weidmann: Who is he and why did he quit as German central bank chief?

Jens Weidmann is a German economist, president of the Deutsche Bundesbank and Chairman of the Board of the Bank for International Settlements.

Jens Weidmann was born in Solingen and is a graduate of the Aix-Marseille University where he bagged a degree in Economics.

Prior to joining the Bundesbank in 2011, Jens Weidmann served as Head of Division IV in the Federal Chancellery. Between the years 1997 to 1999, Jens Weidmann served at the International Monetary Fund.

Jens Weidmann was honored with an Honorary Degree at the HEC Paris. In 2014, Jens Weidmann bagged Wolfram Engels Award and in 2016, he won a medal for Extraordinary Merits for Bavaria.
