Shirley Jane Goldblum, Jeff’s mother, was not only a devoted parent but also a radio broadcaster. Later in life, she transitioned into running a kitchen equipment and appliances sales firm, showcasing her versatility and entrepreneurial spirit.

Harold Leonard Goldblum, Jeff’s father, served as a physician and held the rank of major in the U.S. Army during World War II. His dedication to medicine and military service exemplified a commitment to both health and national duty.

The Goldblum family heritage traced back to Russia and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, with ancestral roots in Starobin and Zolochiv. Jeff, born into this culturally rich background, developed a deep connection to his Jewish heritage.

Growing up, Jeff had a sister named Pamela and an elder brother named Lee. Tragically, another brother, Rick, passed away in 1971 at the age of 23 while traveling in Morocco.

Rick’s untimely death, attributed to dysentery leading to kidney failure, had a profound impact on Jeff. He often speaks of Rick as a hero and credits his interest in jazz music to his late brother’s influence during their formative years.

In pursuit of show business, Jeff’s parents nurtured an environment of creativity and entertainment during his childhood. While his father ultimately chose a career in medicine, rising to the position of chief of medicine at a Pittsburgh hospital, the family’s initial connection to the world of acting persisted.

Jeff Goldblum’s journey into acting began when he moved to New York City at the age of 17. Under the guidance of renowned acting coach Sanford Meisner, he studied at the esteemed Neighborhood Playhouse and honed his craft on the stage. His Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning musical “Two Gentlemen of Verona” marked the beginning of a prolific acting career.

Aside from his achievements in acting, Jeff is also recognized as an accomplished jazz pianist. The influence of his family’s interests in show business and his brother Rick’s musical impact played a crucial role in shaping Jeff’s multifaceted artistic identity.
