Jeff Buckley Death: What happened to Jeff Buckley?

Jeffrey Scott Buckley was a singer, composer, and guitarist from the United States. Buckley gained a following in the early 1990s by playing cover songs at venues in Manhattan’s East Village, such as Sin-é, after a decade as a session guitarist in Los Angeles.

Buckley drowned in the Mississippi River on May 29, 1997, while waiting for his band to arrive from New York when he was caught in the wake of a passing boat during a spontaneous evening swim.

Scuba teams and police attempted to find him that night and the next morning but were unsuccessful. His corpse was discovered on June 4. Buckley’s death was declared an accidental drowning after an examination revealed no indications of drugs or alcohol in his system.

Many posthumous releases of his work have been made since his death, including a compilation of four-track demos and studio recordings for his unfinished second album My Sweetheart the Drunk, Grace expansions, and the Live at Sin-é EP.

Grace, his only studio album, was included in Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and Buckley was included in their list of the greatest vocalists.
