Sempé was also well-known for his magazine illustrations. He illustrated over 110 New Yorker covers, continued to work for Paris Match, and had his work displayed in Paris.

Sempé’s series collaborations with late Asterix co-creator René Goscinny sold millions of copies worldwide and have been adapted for the big screen on numerous occasions, particularly in France.

From the late 1970s to the early 1980s, Sempé gained international acclaim for his 101 cover designs for the New Yorker magazine, in which he illustrated New York with the same love and detail that he used to capture his beloved Paris.
