Who Is Michael Eavis?

Michael Eavis is a dairy farmer and co-founder of the Glastonbury Festival.

Eavis was born on October 17, 1935, in Pilton, Somerset, and was raised there at Worthy Farm.

Eavis took over the 150-acre family farm and 60 cows after his father passed away while he was only 19 years old.

For a few years, he had worked at Mendip Colliery in Nettlebridge to augment the revenue from the farm.

At the 2007 Queen’s Birthday Honours, Eavis earned the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his contributions to music in addition to honorary degrees from the Universities of Bath and Bristol.

Eavis performed on stage alongside musical legend Stevie Wonder during the Bath Festival of the Blues’ 40th anniversary celebration.

He sang “My Way” with Coldplay on stage at the 2016 Glastonbury Festival.

Eavis was listed by Time Magazine as one of the top 100 most influential people in the world in 2009.

Eavis received the Freedom of the Town of Glastonbury in 2022.
