JaVale McGee, a professional basketball player who plays for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA) was born JaVale Lindy McGee to Pamela McGee and George Montgomery on the 19th of January, 1988 in Flint, Michigan.

JaVale McGee’s mother Pamela Denise McGee is a former professional women’s basketball player and a 2012 Women’s Basketball Hall of Famer.
She is the first WNBA mom to have both her JaVale McGee and daughter drafted in the NBA and WNBA. She is the only Olympic Gold Medalist to have given birth to an Olympian in basketball.

JaVale McGee won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. This came 37 years after his mother won hers in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, California.
JaVale McGee’s father George Montgomery was a professional basketball player in the past. He played basketball at Illinois and was drafted in the second round by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1985 NBA Draft, though he never played in the league.
