In that year, he was selected by Montreal as a make-up for the loss of Dennis Martinez to free agency, along with Hiram Bocachica and Mike Thurman, as the third pick after them.
From 1994 through 2000, he participated in baseball for the Expos, playing for the Ottawa Lynx in 1999, helping them reach the AAA level.

He played second base and shortstop mostly as an infielder in the minor levels.
