Janet Yellen Work Experience
Yellen was a Harvard University assistant professor of economics. She was a teacher there from 1971 to 1976 before being hired as an economist by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Yellen studied international monetary reform while at the Fed.
Yellen became the first female president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco in 2004. She left in 2010 to become Vice-Chair of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors under President Barack Obama.
Overall, Yellen is regarded as one of the most successful chairs of the Federal Reserve. During her tenure, the unemployment rate fell from 6.7% to 4.1%, the lowest level in 17 years.
