Jamie Ben Raskin is an American lawyer and politician who has been the United States Representative representing Maryland’s 8th congressional district since 2017.

At the age of 16, Jamie Raskin earned his diploma from Georgetown Day School in 1979. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in government with a focus in political theory from Harvard College in 1983, graduating with honours and the Phi Beta Kappa honour society.

Raskin got his J.D. degree magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1987, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.

Raskin worked as Jesse Jackson’s National Rainbow Coalition’s general counsel from 1989 to 1990. He defended Ross Perot in the 1996 case over Perot’s exclusion from the American presidential debates.

For more than 25 years, Raskin was a constitutional law professor at American University Washington College of Law, where he also mentored future impeachment manager Stacey Plaskett.

Along with the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project, he co-founded and oversaw the LL.M. programme in law and government.
