Former Prince Edward Island premier, James Lee, known affectionately as Jim, passed away on October 11, 2023, at the age of 86, leaving a lasting legacy of public service and dedication to his beloved province.

As the province’s 26th premier, he held office from 1981 to 1986, leaving a profound impact on Prince Edward Island.
Born in Charlottetown, James Lee’s journey in politics began in 1975 when he was first elected to the legislative assembly during a by-election.

However, his influence in provincial politics truly came to the fore during his service in the cabinet of Premier John Angus MacLean between 1979 and 1981.

Following MacLean’s retirement, James Lee took the helm as the leader of the Progressive Conservative party and, subsequently, the premier of Prince Edward Island.
