Patricia Laurie is the widow of late Canadian politician James Lee, whom he married in 1960.

Lee is also survived by three children.

James Lee’s legacy extends far beyond his time as the 26th Premier of Prince Edward Island from 1981 to 1986.
His political journey began with his leadership of the PEI Progressive Conservative Party from 1981 to 1987.
It was in 1981 that he claimed victory at the PC leadership convention, paving the way for his ascension to the role of the 26th Premier of Prince Edward Island.

Under his leadership, the PC party achieved a significant milestone by securing re-election in 1982, a testament to the trust and confidence Islanders placed in James Lee.

His dedication to the province’s progress was further underscored when, in April 1982, he was sworn into the Privy Council of Canada by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, an honor reserved for those who have made significant contributions to the country.
One of the remarkable achievements of the Lee government was the successful negotiation with the federal government to establish a school of veterinary medicine at the University of Prince Edward Island.
He was appointed as a commissioner on the Canadian Pension Commission, contributing his expertise to matters of pension and retirement security.
In 1998, he took on the role of chairman of the PEI Workers’ Compensation Board, further showcasing his dedication to improving the lives and well-being of Islanders.
Lee passed away on October 11, 2023. He was aged 86.
