James Geoffrey Franklin is an American football coach and former player. He is the son of Jocelyn Franklin and James Franklin.

Franklin has served as the head football coach at Penn State University since 2014. He attended Langhorne’s Neshaminy High School before attending East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, where he played quarterback for four years.

He set seven school records in that position and was a Division II player of the year nominee in 1994. That season, Sports Illustrated awarded him National Player of the Week. In 1995, he received his Bachelor of Science in psychology.

Franklin began his teaching career as a wide receivers coach at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in 1995. The next season, he took over as defensive secondary coach at his alma mater, East Stroudsburg.

In 1999, he was the wide receivers coach at Idaho State. That year, the Bengals had one of the best statistical seasons in school history, with 29 touchdowns, 258 receptions, and over 3,300 passing yards. Idaho State was eighth in total offence that year.

Franklin has also interned with various National Football League (NFL) teams, including the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, and Minnesota Vikings.
