Jake Crouthamel and his wife Carol Crouthamel were married for 61 years until his death. The couple had two daughters.

Jake and Carol had been retired since 2005 and had lived in Centerville, Massachusetts, before moving to Hanover in 2013.

Jake Crouthamel passed away at the age of 84 on November 6, 2022. His cause of death was not revealed.

Jake Crouthamel was one of Syracuse University’s most influential administrators and served as AD from 1977 to 2005.

Crouthamel was a founding member of the Big East Conference and was the AD when construction of the Carrier Dome, now known as the JMA Wireless Dome, began in 1979.

He graduated with a B.A. in history from Dartmouth College in 1960. Crouthamel was a standout football player at Dartmouth, where he was a second-team All-Ivy selection for the 25th-anniversary squad.

For three seasons, he led Dartmouth in rushing. Crouthamel was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in 1960 but later signed with the Dallas Cowboys. He was later traded to the American Football League’s Boston Patriots.
