Jae Crowder was born in Villa Rica, Georgia, on July 6, 1990, to Helen Thompson and basketball player Corey Crowder.
His father Corey Crowder is a former professional basketball player who played for the Utah Jazz and the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association
Crowder’s mother, Helen Thompson died at the age of 51 from cancer in August 2017.
Crowder attended Villa Rica High School, where he started at quarterback for the football team and point guard for the basketball team. Crowder spent his summer vacations in Florida working out and training with his father.

Crowder attended South Georgia Technical College before transferring to Howard College, where he led the team to the NJCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship in his sophomore season
Crowder was also named State Farm Junior College Player of the Year while at Howard College
