American cinematographer, Jacques Haitkin has been reported dead. He died after battling ALS and leukemia for years. He was diagnosed with ALS in 2017. According to his family, he died on March 21, 2023, in San Francisco. He was 72 years old.

He worked on several popular movies in his career; most of which raked in a good amount of money at the box office. He manned the camera and did second-unit work on three of the Fast & Furious franchise, two Captain America movies, Cherry 2000, Last Man Standing (1995), The Expendables (2010), X-Men: First Class, Kong: Skull Island, Black Panther, Venom, and more.

Haitkin was the Director of Photographer (DP) on A Nightmare on Elm Street, which was directed by Wes Craven. He also worked in that role on several movies including Galaxy of Terror, The House Where Evil Dwells, Ticks, The Silence of the Hams, Bloodsport, The Forgotten, Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence, and more.
Tributes have been pouring in on social media after the news of his death.
“Oh. Damn. Huge loss. Prolific career. His ELM STREET work was highly influential to me, as was Bill Butler. To lose them both in the same week is a gut punch,” Screenwriter, Erik W. Van Der Wolf wrote.
“One of the greats who gave so many genre films their distinctive, more-expensive-than-the-budget-actually-was look RIP,” Bill Bria tweeted.
“Just heard Jacques Haitkin has passed away. An absolutely brilliant cinematographer and tremendous talent,” Erik Lorinc.
