Towns recounts that after his mother contracted COVID-19, her condition deteriorated and he convinced her to go to the hospital. Despite the fact that Cruz-Towns had to be placed in a medically induced coma, Towns remained optimistic since his mother was a “fighter,” but she began to say her goodbyes.
Jacquelin Cruz-Towns’ recovery was improving, and there was talk of bringing her out of the coma, according to Towns. Towns claimed he was optimistic about her possibilities until he received a phone call from his father. “He was just like, ‘She’s gone. She had a stroke in the middle of the night and died.’

After Jacquelin died, Towns released a video on YouTube entitled “The Toughest Year of My Life.”
“A day that she was feeling great, we talked, and she felt she turned the corner, I felt she was turning the corner,” Towns said in the video. “I knew there were more days to come, but I felt that we were heading in the right direction.” Cruz-Towns’ condition deteriorated quickly, however.
