Jacob played college baseball at Stetson University for the Stetson Hatters, beginning as a shortstop, before changing to a pitcher.
Jacob was drafted by the New York Mets in the ninth round of the 2010 MLB draft, and made his MLB debut with the Mets in 2014.

Jacob won the National League’s (NL) Rookie of the Month on two occasions, as well as the NL Rookie of the Year 2014.
Jacob is a four-time MLB All-Star.
In 2018, he was picked as the NL ERA leader, winning the Cy Young Award that year and the following year.
Jacob is one of the best pitchers in the MLB, having previously earned the accolade as best professional athlete in New York City.
