Jackson Anthony: Veteran Sri Lankan Actor Passes Away at 65
The world of Sri Lankan entertainment is mourning the loss of a legendary figure Conganige Joseph Malsi Jackson Anthony, widely known as Jackson Anthony, who passed away at the age of 65. Jackson Anthony’s contributions to film, theatre, and television have left an indelible mark on the nation’s cultural landscape.

The veteran actor’s journey came to a tragic end following a car accident while receiving intensive care treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. The accident occurred on July 2, 2022, when the vehicle carrying Jackson Anthony and two others was attacked by a wild elephant. They were returning to Colombo after a film shoot at the time. Despite over a year of medical care in the Intensive Care Unit, he succumbed to his injuries on the morning of Monday, October 9, 2023.
Born on July 8, 1958, in the village of Ragama Podivy Kumbura, Jackson Anthony’s illustrious career spanned multiple artistic domains. His educational journey took him through Hapugoda Junior College, Bandarawela Saint Mary’s, and Galahitiyava Madhya Maha Vidyalaya. He pursued an Honors Degree in Sinhala Language at the University of Colombo and later achieved a Master’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura.
Jackson Anthony’s artistic brilliance shone brightly on the theatre stage, where he participated in numerous plays, leaving an indelible mark with productions like “Varuyan Mana” and “Manavayo,” among others.
Transitioning to the world of television, he became a beloved figure through memorable roles in TV dramas like “Ella Nad Karuva,” “Kadulla,” “Akala Sandhya,” and “Pitagamkarayo.”

In the realm of cinema, Jackson Anthony made his debut in 1993 and went on to act in several films, including “Vishi Dela,” “Loku Duva,” “Gini Avi and Gini Keli,” “Aswasuma,” “Agnidahaya,” and “Guerrilla Marketing.” Remarkably, he received the Best Actor award an astonishing 16 times during his career.
