Considering that he was a very successful songwriter who wrote several hit songs, it will be understandable if he was able to rake in such an amount of wealth over the years.

Lee left his home in Santa Monica when he was just 15 years old, to settle in San Francisco at age 19. In 1974, he founded the music group, The Nerves along with two guys from the East Coast called Case and Collins, who also sang and wrote songs.

The band secured a $2,000 loan to record a four-song, self-titled, self-released EP in San Francisco that featured two of Lee’s compositions Give Me Some Time and Hanging on the Telephone.

After the newly found group recorded their EP, they relocated to Los Angeles on New Year’s Day in 1977. That same year, they booked their own self-produced coast-to-coast U.S. tour, appearing with other artistes including Ramones, Pere Ubu, Devo, Mink DeVille, and more.

Hanging on the Telephone was later recorded by Blonde vocalist Harry in 1978, after it was sent to him by writer Jeffrey Lee Prince, who was then the President of the Blondie Fan Club.

The song was also covered by other artistes including Def Leppard, Cat  Power, Davila 666, and more. The original version which was recorded by Nerves was featured on the popular Netflix tv series Outer Banks.

Unfortunately, the group broke up shortly after and Case went ahead to form The Plimsouls, whiles Collins formed The Beat. Lee also released two original collections dubbed Jack Lee’s Greatest Hits Volume 1 (1983) and a self-titled set in 1985. He also released a 23-song compilation of his work titled Bigger Than Life which was issued in 2016.
