Jack Campbell was born in Port Huron, Michigan, United States of America. Jack Campbell joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) in 2008.

In his second season in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), Jack Campbell received the Dave Peterson Goalie of the Year Award.

Jack Campbell was drafted 11th overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Campbell was also chosen in the seventh round (170th overall) by Dinamo Minsk in the 2010 Kontinental Hockey League Junior Draft.

On March 30, 2012, Jack Campbell had his first professional shutout over the Lake Erie Monsters by making 30 saves in the 4–0 win.
