His high school career saw him lead his team to winning a state championship, after which he was named a McDonald’s All-American and Mr. Georgia Basketball.
He recorded a successful collegiate career playing for the Auburn Tigers, and again earning an All-American, and winning the USBWA National Freshman of the Year Award.
In 2019, Smith was in the team that represented the United States at the FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship in Belém, Brazil.
He had averaged 13.8 points and 6.2 rebounds in each game and his team eventually won the gold medal.
In 2022, Smith was drafted by the Houston Rockets as 3rd overall pick in the NBA Draft
He became the highest draft pick ever to be produced by Auburn.
