Born in Neuwied, Germany, Bonga is more than just a basketball player; he’s a symbol of the diverse and multicultural nature of the sport. His parents originally hail from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and their journey to Germany marked the beginning of a remarkable story.

Isaac’s father initially planned to move to Canada in the early 1990s but found himself settling in Germany instead. He first lived in Frankfurt and later in Koblenz. This unique cultural blend became a part of Isaac’s identity, shaping the way he approaches life and basketball.

The Bonga family has more than one talented athlete. Isaac’s older brother, Tarsis, is a professional association football player for VfL Bochum. Meanwhile, his younger brother, Joshua, is following in his footsteps, making a name for himself in the world of basketball. It’s evident that athleticism runs in the family.

Isaac Bonga’s journey in basketball began at an early age. At the age of seven, he was already hitting the streets of Neuwied, playing streetball. Just two years later, he joined a local club, marking the start of his formal basketball training.

His amateur career saw him playing for Post SV Koblenz. In the 2014–15 season, he gained valuable experience playing in Germany’s fifth-tier level 2 Regionalliga with SG Lützel-Post Koblenz. After securing a league promotion to the fourth division (Regionalliga) with his team, he continued to make strides in the 2015–16 Regionalliga season, averaging 5.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2 assists per game.

Isaac’s talent didn’t go unnoticed, and he soon found himself representing the under-19 squad of Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany’s top junior division, NBBL.

In June 2016, Bonga signed a four-year deal with Skyliners Frankfurt of the Basketball Bundesliga, marking a significant step in his professional career. His talent also earned him an invitation to the NBA Top 100 camp in Charlottesville, Virginia.
