Timothy Wakefield, an American former professional baseball pitcher who played 19 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), was born on August 2, 1966. Wakefield started his professional baseball career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he is best known for his 17-year stint as the longest-tenured player on the Boston Red Sox, from 1995 until his retirement in 2012. Wakefield was the oldest active player in the major leagues at the time of his retirement.

On September 13, 2011, Wakefield defeated the Toronto Blue Jays to win his 200th career game. He currently holds the third-highest career win total in Red Sox franchise history (186), trailing only Cy Young and Roger Clemens. He ranks first among Red Sox pitchers in innings pitched and is second all-time in wins at Fenway Park, behind Clemens’s 100.
