Gokey sang The Prayer with American contemporary gospel singer Natalie Grant.

Gokey was born on April 24, 1980, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and gained popularity when he contested on the eighth season of the reality TV singing competition “American Idol” in 2009.

Prior to his time on “American Idol,” Gokey sang in the church and even headed the church choir. His first wife, Sophia, had died of complications from a heart condition shortly before his audition on “American Idol”.

Gokey had finished third place on the show and went on to release his debut album, “My Best Days,” in 2010, which ranked tops on the Billboard 200 chart.

The album featured the hit single “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me.” Subsequently, he released several more albums, including “Hope in Front of Me”, “Rise”, and “Haven’t Seen It Yet”.

Gokey later established the Sophia’s Heart Foundation in honour of his late wife.
