The market will open again on Tuesday, January 16 and normal trading hours will resume. The bond market is also closed on this day. Banks are generally closed, but it is best to check with individual banks to confirm their hours of operation.

Arizona was one of the last states to observe MLK Day, after a long and controversial history that involved boycotts, protests, and a lost Super Bowl.

Arizona recognized Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1993 after the National Football League threatened to pull the Super Bowl from Arizona over a controversial bill. Arizona voters finally approved the holiday in 1992, and it was first celebrated in 1993.
