The Grand Inquisitor, introduced simply as The Inquisitor and known as the Master of the Inquisitorius, is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise.

The concept of a Grand Inquisitor originated from the 1987 Star Wars Sourcebook by Bill Slavicsek and Curtis Smith, where the death of “Torbin, the Grand Inquisitor” is mentioned in passing.
In the 1989 edition, a photograph of Max von Sydow as Ming the Merciless from the 1980 Flash Gordon film (who would later portray Lor San Tekka in the 2015 feature film Star Wars: The Force Awakens) is used represent the character.

Is the Grand Inquisitor the son?
In the spinoff television series The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, Filoni and lead character designer Kilian Plunkett created a character with an unintentional resemblance to the Son, the Pau’an villain known as the Grand Inquisitor.
The Son embodied the dark side of the Force who dwelled on Mortis during the Clone Wars with his sister, the light-sider known as Daughter, and the powerful Force user known as Father, who tried to keep them in balance.
