The lead in the Swarovski crystal gives the jewellery item sparkle and brilliance. The lead in Swarovski crystals poses no significant risk of excessive lead exposure to human health via surface contact (hand to mouth), mouthing or even ingestion.

Swarovski crystals have been tested under a variety of test methods for extractable lead and are not cancerous. The actual Swarovski product comes with a 32% concentration of lead.

Swarovski crystal beads which are leaded crystals should, however, be kept from children. Always wash your hands after handling crystals when you are with small children.

Swarovski is an Austrian company and producer of glass that creates and sells a wide range of products, including jewellery, watches, figurines, home decor, and accessories.

The Swarovski company is split into three major industry areas. There is the Swarovski Crystal Business which produces crystal glass, jewellery and accessories; Swarovski Optik, which produces optical instruments and Tyrolit which manufactures and supplies grinding, sawing, drilling, and dressing tools.

I think they reduced the lead content after 1990s and they do not contain the 32% of the lead that was primarily 28% prior to this time.
