Spike Dykes was an American football player and coach who won the Southwest Conference championship with the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team of Texas Tech University in 1994.

Spike Dykes was a three-time winner of the Southwest Conference Coach of the Year and a one-time winner of the Big 12 Coach of the Year. Spike Dykes was loved by many for his good coaching style.

Spike Dykes was born in Lubbock, Texas, on March 14, 1938, and died in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, on April 10, 2017, at the age of 79 years, as a result of heart issues and some other health complications.
Spike Dykes is survived by his two lovely children: Sonny who currently plies his trade as a head football coach at Texas Christian University and Rick who formerly served as an assistant football coach at Texas Tech University.
