Sonoya Mizuno is a mixed-race actress, model, and ballet dancer of Japanese origin who has appeared in Alex Garland’s films Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Devs.

Sonoya Mizuno was raised in the United Kingdom after being born in Japan to a Japanese father and a half-Argentinian, half-English mother.

Mizuno discussed her upbringing as a half-Japanese girl in the UK and her path into the film and media industries with Resonate.

“Because I feel predominantly English, I assumed I would have the same chance as any other English girl.” I wasn’t fully conscious of the deep, complex issues surrounding race in the entertainment industry.

Sonoya Mizuno appeared in the films La La Land, Beauty and the Beast, and Crazy Rich Asians as a supporting actress, and she starred in the Netflix miniseries Maniac.
