Sean Couturier is a professional ice hockey player from Canada who was born in the United States. He serves as an alternate captain for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Couturier was born in Phoenix, Arizona, where his father was then a hockey player, but once his father retired, the family moved to Bathurst, New Brunswick.

He spent several years there playing minor hockey, but following an unsuccessful tryout for the Quebec AAA roster, he spent a year in the Saskatchewan AAA league. Couturier was selected in the second round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) draft by the Drummondville Voltigeurs following his league championship with Saskatchewan. Couturier gained 96 points as a 17-year-old in the 2009–10 season after a poor debut campaign.

Five months after his operation, in March, Couturier was given the all-clear to play, but the Flyers decided to bench him. Due to an unexplained ailment, Couturier was unable to practice on Monday, but he won’t miss any playing time.
