Sean Couturier is a professional ice hockey player from Canada who was born in America. He serves as an alternate captain for the National Hockey League (NHL)’s Philadelphia Flyers.
When Couturier’s father retired from hockey, the family moved to Bathurst, New Brunswick from Phoenix, Arizona, where Couturier was born.

After an unsuccessful tryout for the Quebec AAA club, he spent a year in the Saskatchewan AAA league where he played minor hockey for a number of years. The Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) selected Couturier in the second round of the draft after Saskatchewan’s league champion. After a poor debut campaign, Couturier put up 96 points as a 17-year-old in the 2009–10 campaign.

Laurence Dionne and Couturier wed in June 2019. The couple bought a home in Haddonfield, New Jersey in 2020 in preparation for Couturier’s wife’s successful green card application. Ella, their firstborn, was born on July 23, 2020. The Acadie-Bathurst Titan’s home arena, the K. C. Irving Regional Centre, has a boulevard outside that has been dubbed “Sean Couturier Avenue” since 2016.
