Is Queen Elizabeth the longest-serving monarch?
Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II became the longest-reigning monarch in British history on September 9, 2015, surpassing the reign of her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria.
She has some way to go before becoming the longest-reigning ruler in history, however. That title is held by King Louis XIV of France, who reigned for 72 years and 110 days. This milestone would be reached in 2024.
