Pokémon is a Japanese word that comes from the word Poketto Monsuta; which is translated into English as Pocket Monster. Pocket Monsters Red and Green was the first generation among the Pokémon games. It was released in 1996. The Pokémon series was released for the Game Boy in Japan. The games became so popular that an enhanced Blue version was released not long after. The Blue version was reprogrammed as Pokémon Red and Blue for international release.
