Hailing from Manitoba, Geekie’s early hockey roots trace back to his time with the Yellowhead Chiefs in the Manitoba U-18 ‘AAA’ Hockey League (MMHL). In his rookie season, Geekie made an immediate impact, leading the team with an impressive 53 points in 44 games.
His outstanding performance earned him accolades such as Second Team All-Star, Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, and Offensive Player of the Month—a testament to his skill and versatility on the ice.
Despite being passed over in his first year of draft eligibility, Geekie continued to refine his game. Returning to the Yellowhead Chiefs for the majority of the 2014–15 season, he also gained experience with the Neepawa Titans of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL).

This period of development set the stage for Geekie’s entry into major junior hockey, marking the beginning of a journey that would ultimately lead him to the NHL. Geekie’s first full major junior campaign in the 2015–16 season saw him making a significant impact with the Tri-City Americans.
His rookie season showcased his scoring ability, contributing 12 goals and 25 points in 66 games. Despite these accomplishments, he returned for a sophomore season with the Americans.
The turning point in Geekie’s junior career came in the 2016–17 season when he exploded offensively, tallying a career-best 90 points in 72 games. This remarkable performance caught the attention of the NHL Central Scouting Bureau, ranking him 42nd amongst North American skaters.
Geekie’s success was attributed to his increased confidence as a player, a crucial factor in his ability to dominate on the ice. In June 2017, Geekie’s dedication and skill were rewarded when he was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the third round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. This marked the beginning of his professional journey in the NHL, a journey that has seen him continue to make an impact with the Boston Bruins.
