Michael Ball made his West End debut in 1985 as Marius Pontmercy in the original London production of Les Misérables.

Michael Ball began his acting career by joining a youth theatre, which eventually led him to study drama at the Guildford School of Acting, graduating in 1984.

In April 2022, Michael Ball returned to the Guildford School of Acting to give a speech to the graduating postgraduates of that year and was also presented with an honorary doctorate by the University of Surrey.

On April 24, 2020, Michael Ball and Captain Tom Moore released a cover of “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” which went straight to number one on the UK Singles Chart, with combined chart sales of 82,000 and becoming the fastest-selling single of the year.
