Mary Peltola Career
Mary Peltola is a former tribal court judge who now represents Alaska’s congressional district in the United States.
Born on August 31, 1973, in Anchorage, Alaska, Peltola who is a democrat, presided over the tribal court of the Orutsararmiut Native Council from 2020 to 2021.
She started her political career as a legislature intern in 1996.

The University of Alaska alumnus has also served as the Kuskokwim River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission’s executive director.
Additionally, from 1999 to 2003, Peltola served as the representative for Alaska’s 39th district, and from 1999 to 2009, he was a member of the Alaska House of Representatives.
Having been born in Alaska, Peltola is not only the first woman to represent Alaska in the House but also the first Democrat to do so since 1972.
Since 2015, Peltola is the first Democrat to serve as her state’s congressperson in either chamber.
