Australian jockey Damien Oliver competes in thoroughbred horse racing. Oliver comes from a racing family; his father, Ray Oliver, enjoyed a great career in racing before his away in a crash in the 1975 Western Australian Kalgoorlie Cup. Oliver was enshrined in the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2008.

In 1988, Damien Oliver began his riding career and finished his apprenticeship under the guidance of Lee Freedman and his stepfather Lindsey Rudland. His first victory as a trainee came in the AJC Warwick Stakes in March 1988 while riding Mr Gudbud at Bunbury, Western Australia. Sadly, he incurred a number of wounds over the years, including a shattered back in 1996 from a tumble at Moonee Valley.

Actually, Damien is unrelated to Luke, whose three-year-old fillies Hautvillers and Kansas Sunflower will compete in Saturday’s group 2 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic over 1600 meters.
