Ledisi is in a sorority. She has been inducted into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. as an honorary member.

In 2000, Ledisi released her first album, Soulsinger, on her own record label. After the release of Soulsinger, Ledisi began performing outside of the Bay Area.

In 1995, Ledisi formed a band and later founded her own record label, LeSun Records, with Sundra Manning after struggling to get signed to a major label.

In 2005, Ledisi signed a record deal with Verve Forecast and released her third album, Lost & Found, in 2007. The album sold almost 217,000 copies and earned her two Grammy Award nominations, including one for Best New Artist.

In 2013, Ledisi was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance for her collaboration with Robert Glasper on the album cut “Gonna Be Alright.”

To date, Ledisi has earned a total of fourteen Grammy Award nominations, winning her first award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Anything For You” in 2021.
