Professional cricketer from Sri Lanka named Kusal Mendis bats in the top order in all formats of the game. Prior to playing for the national team, he only competed in sixteen first-class games. At Sri Lanka Cricket’s annual awards ceremony in November 2017, he was named the One Day International (ODI) batsman of the year for the 2016–17 campaign.

In 2014, Mendis led the Sri Lankan team at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He was Sri Lanka’s 132nd Test player, earning his cap in the second match in the Sobers-Tissera Trophy. In the second Test of the 2015 West Indies tour of Sri Lanka, he played his first Test, making 13 runs in the first innings and 39 runs in the second.
