Is Ken Jeong still a doctor?

Despite his successful career as a stand-up comedian and actor, Kendrick Kang-Joh Jeong, more commonly known as Ken Jeong, still holds the title of doctor.

Jeong, a licensed physician in California, obtained his medical degree from the UNC School of Medicine in 1995 after completing his undergraduate studies at Duke University in 1990.

His journey into the world of medicine continued with a residency at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, where he honed his skills and earned recognition for his comedic talents by winning the Big Easy Laff-Off in 1995.

While still practicing medicine, Jeong’s comedic aspirations led him to Los Angeles in 1998. Despite his demanding career as a physician of internal medicine at a Kaiser Permanente hospital in Woodland Hills, Jeong began performing regularly at comedy clubs like The Improv and Laugh Factory.

His stand-up routines quickly gained attention, leading to numerous television appearances on popular shows such as NBC’s The Office, FOX’s MADtv, HBO’s Entourage, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

In 2006, Ken Jeong made the pivotal decision to transition from medicine to acting, embarking on a new chapter in his career.

However, despite leaving his medical practice behind, Jeong has chosen to maintain his medical license. This decision has proven to be invaluable, as Jeong has utilized his medical expertise to assist with medical emergencies both during performances and on-set.
