Is Jim Boeheim Retired?

Jim Boeheim, the legendary Syracuse men’s basketball coach, stepped down as coach Wednesday, March 8 2023.

Jim Boeheim has been the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team head coach for 47 years, amassing a 1,116-440 record.

In a news release issued Wednesday night, the university announced the men’s basketball coaching transition.

The news release made no mention of Boeheim’s retirement, and no statement in the release was attributed to him. Instead, the university stated that Boeheim’s 47th season and illustrious career “comes to an end.”

Adrian Autry, a former Syracuse player and assistant coach since 2011, will be named head coach.

Syracuse has reached the NCAA Tournament 35 times under Boeheim, including Final Four appearances in 1987, 1996, 2003, 2013, and 2016. The Orange, led by Carmelo Anthony, won the national championship in 2003.

Syracuse finished the regular season 18-12 and lost the ACC tournament to Wake Forest on a last-second shot on Wednesday.
