Janny Sikazwe has referee several continental and international tournaments over the years. He was a referee for the 2015 AFCON and 2017 AFCON Final in Gabon. He was also the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup Final which was played in Japan.

What happened to the referee in Tunisia vs Mali?
During the 2021 African Cup of Nations, Janny Sikazwe faced heavy backlash for calling a full-time twice in the Group F game between Mali and Tunisia which was played on 12 January 2022. He blew the first full-time whistle on the 85th minute and the second one before the 90th minute by about 17 seconds.

According to sources, he was suffering from heart stroke and intense dehydration and was taken to the hospital when he suddenly blew the whistle during the match.
After he was discharged from the hospital, he shared;
”I was lucky I didn’t go into coma. It would have been a very different story. The doctors told me my body was not cooling down. I wouldn’t have been just a little time before I would’ve gone into coma, and that would have been the end. I think God told me to end the match. He saved me.”
