During the accident, the helmet he was wearing at that time was split into two, heavily saving his life but leaving him in a 10-day induced coma. He suffered a severe brain injury that damaged his frontal lobe. This changed his personality completely and made him behave differently.

After the accident, he developed short temperedness, memory problems, and difficulty in learning. He also developed epilepsy, and also suffered complications in his vocabulary.

In 2019, he was the first celebrity to be voted out of Strictly Come Dancing after a poor performance. He shared that he was facing challenges with remembering the steps he had been taught earlier. This can be traced to his brain injury which seems not to be healing.
