Giada De Laurentiis’ maternal great-grandmother was English and her grandmother was British-Italian film star Silvana Mangano. Her paternal grandmother, Pamela De Benedetti née Leslie-Jones, was also English.

While Giada De Laurentiis was born in Italy, she grew up in Southern California and speaks English fluently. It is unclear whether she is fluent in Italian, but she has mentioned in interviews that she enjoys visiting Italy and has a deep appreciation for Italian cuisine and culture.

In June 2010, Giada De Laurentiis became a regularly appearing mentor to the finalists on the popular Food Network competition show The Next Food Network Star.
