Born on February 6, 1951, in Lynn, Kentucky, Gullett’s journey in baseball began at a young age. His talent on the field quickly caught the attention of scouts, leading to his selection by the Cincinnati Reds in the first round of the 1969 MLB Draft.

Gullett made his Major League Baseball debut in 1970, showcasing his exceptional skills as a left-handed pitcher. Throughout his career, he played a pivotal role in the success of the Cincinnati Reds, contributing to their two consecutive World Series titles in 1975 and 1976.

His impressive performances on the mound earned him recognition, including two instances where he received votes for the prestigious Cy Young Award.
