Fielding moves back home with Gonker, but his sarcastic father, John, frowns at the thought of taking care of a pet. After much persuasions from his son, John ties Gonker in a shock collar to keep him wandering about.
Fielding who is an outgoing person, goes out with his best friend Nate and at this point, Gonker goes missing while trying to run after a fox.
John promises his son that Gonker would be found and brought back home. Fielding’s mother, Ginny, steps in at this point with maps and red yarn connecting the various locations, and posts a “hero list” of all the people helping in the search.
The search was not just urgent but critical because Gonker had Addison’s disease and must take his medication within the next 19 days.
During the search, John communicates deeply with his son and shows him “what responsibility and commitment means to a father.”
“You worry about Gonker because you love him, and he’s lost. That’s why I worry about you”, he said.
In the end, after much frantic efforts, Gonker was found in the most unexpected way.
